MyNetFone VoIP setup guide

What is VOIP?

VOIP (which is short for “Voice over IP”) is a technology that enables you to make and receive phone calls using your regular phone handset while directing the call through your internet connection. You can still dial numbers and give out your phone number, and it’s generally much cheaper than retaining a dedicated landline.

If you’re thinking that sounds complicated to set up and use, it’s really not!

Pentanet has tested several Australian VOIP suppliers to find the provider with the best value and product for our customers, and tested their service on our equipment (Netcomm NF18ACV) to make sure setup is quick and painless.

What do I need to do?

To use VoIP, you’ll need:

• An account with a VOIP provider (such as MyNetFone)
• A regular phone handset - we recommend the use of a DECT wireless unit (costing roughly $30) for the best quality
• A router that supports VOIP (such as the Netcomm NF18ACV supplied by us).

(One quick note here - it’s also possible to make VOIP calls using a software phone instead of a real phone, and that some VOIP handsets don’t require you to use a special router with a phone port - but that’s outside the scope of this guide.)

Setting up VoIP with MyNetFone

MyNetFone (at the time of writing) offers a basic VOIP service for $10/month (plus calls) on a month to month plan. Number porting (meaning transferring your old landline number into MyNetFone) is free.

Setting up VoIP on your router is quick and simple, and just needs to be done once. Here’s what to do:

1. Log into your NF18ACV at http://192.168.20.1. The default username and password are admin and admin.

2. Select the ‘Voice’ tab on the left hand side, then 'SIP Basic Setting’

3. Ensure ‘Bound Interface Name’ is set to: Any_WAN and ensure ‘Country’ is set to: AUS – AUSTRALIA.

4. Set your SIP local port to 5060 and select the checkbox ‘Use SIP Proxy’, then enter the following:

   • SIP proxy: sip00.mynetfone.com.au
   • SIP proxy port: 5060

5. Select checkbox ‘Use SIP Outbound Proxy’

   • SIP outbound proxy: sip00.mynetfone.com.au
   • SIP outbound proxy port: 5060

6. Select checkbox ‘Use SIP registrar’

   • SIP registrar: sip00.mynetfone.com.au
   • SIP registrar port: 5060

7. In the table:

   • Select Account enabled (1)
   • Ensure ‘polarity reverse enable’ is un-checked
   • Authentication name: Your Mynetfone VoIP number
   • Password: Your Mynetfone password
   • Cid Name: Your Mynetfone VoIP number
   • Cid Number: Your Mynetfone VoIP number

8. Lastly, click ‘Apply’, and you’re done!

To confirm service is operational, please click ‘VoIP Status’ on the left-side panel. ‘UP’ indicates your VOIP provisioning is successful, and you can now connect your handset to the voice port on your Netcomm router and make a call.
